Green, Brown and Grey pastel boards have become the "under
painting" coloured surfaces for Justine's Oil Pastels which
have an airy, moving linear quality, similar to Van Gogh's passionate
paintings. Collage combined with watercolours has become another
component to Justine Mantor's layering techniques as she creates
abstractions of desert vistas utilizing such diverse elements as
hand-painted papers, shredded money and maps, cloth, lace papers,
dried flowers, bark and glitter.
The Southwest is a never ending source of
excitement and ideas as Justine Mantor is continually challenged
to find new methods to illustrate the mysterious and changing desert. |
